John 15:1 'I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener'
Taking inspiration from seeing olive trees growing in pots in front gardens, we have taken on the challenge of renovating our church garden with plants from the bible. There is much debate about the plants and flowers metioned in the bible, so the project has started with biblical plants that we are more certain of. We have planted a grape vine, fig bush, palm tree and the herbs mint, garlic and coriander. The herbs are planted near the kitchen and could be used for cooking. The biblical plants are labelled with spoons with a scriptural reference.
The garden has been encouraging conversations from passers-by at the church with people stopping to enquire about the plants and the spoons which has been lovely. We hope that the biblical plants will be a reminder of scriptures/stories in the bible and be an encouragement to your faith. When we see the grape vine it's a lovely reminder of John 15:1 "I am the true vine and my Father is the Gardener".
This article was written during the summer of 2015, there are more pictures of the garden in late summer 2016 in one of the galleries here.
